（1）apply to do sth. 申请做......
He applied to stay there.
他申请留在那里。
He applied to join the party in 1980.
他1980年入党。
（2）apply to sth./sb. 适用于某物/某人
What you said doesn't apply to me.
你所说的不适合我。
The rule doesn't apply to the case.
这条规则不适合这个场合。
注意：该结构中的 to 是介词，后跟 v.-ing 形式。
These methods apply to learning English.
这些方法适合学习英语。
（3）apply sth. to sth. 把一物运用到另一物上
You can't apply this rule to every case.
你不能把这个规则运用到每个场合。
In this way we can better apply theory to practice.
这样我们可以更好地把理论运用到实践中。
（4）apply oneself to doing sth. 致力于......
He applied himself to learning French.
他醉心于学习法语。
If you apply yourself to the job,you will finish it soon.
如果你努力干，这份工作不久就会完成。
注意：该结构中的 oneself 有时可用 one's mind,one's energies 代替。
（5）apply for sth. 申请或请求得到......
He applied for a scholarship.
他申请了奖学金。
I will apply for the job tomorrow.
明天我就去申请这份工作。
注意：有时可在 apply 后加 to sb.，表示向某人申请。
He applied to us for help.
他向我们求助。
You must apply to the teacher for permission.
你必须请求老师批准。
